Backpacking the Gobi: My summer vacation of 2009
One of my most memorable trips was backpacking the Gobi. This country is truly amazing with some of the friendliest people in the world. You can tell with the big smiles they carry on their faces. Mongolia has some of the tallest mountains in east Asia at over 4,000 meters high. Spend a few nights in a Ger and ride a 2 hump camel. Most highways in this country are paths in the sand that wind around mountains and plateau’s. Here you can check out ice year round in the desert. Welcome to the land of Blue Sky.
In the summer of 2008, I decided I did not want to travel far from my current home in South Korea, but still wanted to stay in Asia, and wanted to travel to a country I had never been to before. I decided I wanted to travel to Mongolia and backpack the Gobi desert. For about 28 days, I decided to live in a tent and be adventurous. So far this was probably the most adventurous trip yet. My article The Hikers Diary to Backpacking the Gobi Desert was published in THEAsiaN in 2012.
